Description

Our white wall tyre paint is developed and produced in Iceland with rubber and a special liquid. With this paint for rubber tyres you can easily give your motorcycle or car tires that real old skool white wall look! Once painted this special liquid keeps the paint from getting completely solid: the paint gets only around 50% solid-hardness which prevents it from cracking on moving tyres. We offer 250ML paint packagings of the best whitewall tyre paint.

Painting motorcycle wheels

The use of white paint to give your wheels that cool look originated in Chicago, where a small tyre company made them for their horse and chauffeur drawn carriages around 1914. The common popularity of whitewall tyres only increased in the 1930’s and reached its height in the early 1950’s. During the 60’s the popularity slowly decreased but never really disappeared altogether. Nowadays the white wall tyre paint has definitely made a comeback, but most car and motorcycle manufacturers don’t offer it as a standard option anymore. Nevertheless it’s in high demand by custom cafe racer builders!

How to paint tyres

Are you ready to paint your own tyres? All you need is White Wall tyre paint, masking tape, some quality brushes and soap for degreasing the tyres. Make sure you’re not using aggressive soaps, because those might dry out the tyres. The one thing left that you need is a motorbike with tyres, patience, music and a steady hand and you’re ready to paint!

Start with taking the tyres off your motorcycle and clean them with the degreasing soaps. Mask the rims with the tape and apply the first layer of tyre wall paint. Once the first layer is finished on one side, switch sides and apply the layer on the other side. Repeat until you have three layers of tire paint on both sides of the wheels. Remove the masking tape and let the paint dry for about 24 hours. We have also written a blog on this DIY for those wanting step-by-step photos and explanation.

Tyre painting ideas

There’s no one way to paint your motorcycle tyres. You can paint the bands of the White Wall tyres as broad or as narrow as you like. It mainly depends on the era you use as inspiration for your custom cafe racer project. In the 30’s of the 20th century the white band was quite broad and became narrower and narrower as the 1960’s progressed. Besides a band on both sides of your motorcycle tyre, you can also choose to only paint the letters on the tyre. In the end it’s your cafe racer, so choose whatever way fits you and your motorcycle best!
