Not all motorbike batteries are the same. You can find in our assortment lead-acid batteries, gel batteries and lithium batteries. Which one fits your motorbike best, depends of course on the battery your cafe racer is using at the moment.
The lithium battery is known for its energy density and long life. Because of this, it is definitely a favorite among cafe racers' homebuilders. With a lithium motor battery, the energy needed for motorcycling is released through the reaction between manganese dioxide and natural lithium. The lithium batteries in our range are all Li-Ion batteries which are easily rechargeable, unlike the normal lithium battery.
Many lead batteries are also called flight batteries. This is due to the membrane which is found in the battery. The battery consists of water, sulphuric acid and lead and is therefore also called a "wet" battery. A lead-acid battery is usually a small battery with high power, making it a good choice for your cafe racer project. If your motorbike is currently using a lead battery, you can choose either a lead battery or a gel battery!
A gel engine battery is also a maintenance-free lead acid battery. Unlike the above lead batteries with a liquid electrolyte, a gel battery uses an electrolyte in the form of a gel. A gel motorbike battery can be used in any position, because the gel cannot run out. Also, when charging a gel battery less gas is generated and the gas that is released is absorbed by the electrolyte. Refilling the battery with distilled water is therefore a thing of the past with a gel battery.
Not quite sure which battery is the most suitable for your cafe racer? Take a look at the FAQ below to see if your question is among them. Is your question not included? Then contact our customer service, we are happy to help you!
It is best to buy a similar motorbike battery as the one originally installed in the motorbike. You can then choose a gel, lead or lithium battery with equivalent specifications.
Depending on the charger, the motorbike battery should be charged within 24 hours. If this is not the case, the battery should be replaced in most cases. A new motorbike battery is usually delivered 80% full. It is therefore recommended to charge the battery for half a day before using it for the first time.
A trickle charger is a charger that takes extra good care of a motorbike battery by constantly charging it a little but also letting it run empty a little. In this way the battery is well maintained and you are assured of a motorbike battery with a long life.
Which battery trickle charger you need depends on the motorbike battery you have. There are more and more battery chargers with trickle charge function, but make sure you have the right charger for your motorbike battery. For lithium batteries, it is extremely important that you use the right charger. A good example is the Optimate lithium and the NOCO genius 1.
A trickle charger is recommended for every type of battery when you do not use it for a longer period, for example during the winter break.
Old lead batteries and gel batteries are very heavy and robust and can withstand the cold better than for example a lithium battery.
If you are looking for a strong, small and light battery that you can even hang upside down in the engine, we recommend a lithium battery. If you have the space you can go for a GEL battery.
A lithium battery is much lighter, smaller and can be mounted in any way in the engine. It has the same or even more starting capacity than a conventional motorbike battery.
